Event Navigation
During the period around 1600 Kassel was one of the cultural centres of Europe. Prof. Hartmut Broszinski, one of the proven experts on this period, will use the example of the festivities surrounding the christening of Elisabeth of Hessen to give an introduction to the cultural and political position of the city. The Chamber Choir of the Kreuzkirche in Kassel, which celebrated its diamond jubilee in 2015, will be directed by Jochen Faumhammer and will perform a number of pieces found in the rich repertoire of the collection historical scores in the Kassel University Library. In addition to works by Hans Leo Hassler, Orlando di Lasso and William Byrd, choral arrangements composed by Valentin Haußmann will attract attention. In particular the performance of HaußmannÄ’s madrigals will make the musical portion of the event an unforgetable listening experience. The performance of this wonderful composition was only made possible by the purchase of a long missing alto voice part book by the University Library in the fall of 2015.
